The Koenigsegg Regera made its official debut at the 2015 Geneva motor show, and it’s a doozy. For starters, its combined output of around 1500 hp makes it more powerful than the current crop of hybrid hypercars like the McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder. That’s right, the folks at Koenigsegg have decided to do away with a traditional transmission, even the now ubiquitous, quick-shifting dual-clutch automatic that’s part of the basic hybrid hypercar formula.
The Regera’s hybrid system starts with a mid-mounted, twin-turbo, 5.0-liter V-8 that churns out a whopping 1100 hp and 944 lb-ft of torque and screams to a redline of 8250 rpm. The power goes to what the automaker dubs as the Koenigsegg Direct Drive, which essentially connects the engine to the 2.85 ratio final drive rear axle. The dry-sump engine can be hydraulically decoupled to allow for full-electric propulsion for an all-EV range of about 40 miles.
Speaking of which, the Regera features a total of three electric motors, one at the crank and one at each rear wheel (to provide power and torque vectoring capabilities). The latter is rated at 214 hp and 221 lb-ft, while the former makes 241 hp and 192 lb-ft. Providing juice is a 9-kWh, liquid-cooled battery pack that sits within the chassis’ tunnel. Despite the hybrid hardware, Koenigsegg says the Regera tips the scales at just 3589 pounds.
For now, Koenigsegg is skipping the typical 0-60 mph estimate in favor of a claimed 0-400 kmh (249 mph) time of under 20 seconds, similar to what the automaker claimed for its Agera One: 1. Additionally, Koenigsegg estimates the Regera will speed from 93-155 mph in just 3.2 seconds. Top speed is unknown.
Vents and air scoops dominate the body work, while a massive, active rear wing deploys when downforce is needed and stows away to maintain the Regera’s smooth lines. Other performance goodies include carbon-fiber, center-locking wheels, carbon ceramic brakes, active engine mounts, active front flaps, and active damping. Koenigsegg says it will only build 80 copies, a number it purposely picked because of its dominating symbolism according to Pythagorean Numerology.

Koenigsegg also used the Geneva show to reveal its Agera RS. Compared to the Agera R and Agera S, the RS features more aerodynamic enhancements and a lower curb weight of 3075 pounds.
